AVERAGE OVER-65 TOTAL TAX BILL PERCENTAGE INCREASE FROM 1999 THROUGH 2004 BY CITIES IN TARRANT COUNTY COMPARED TO CHANGE IN THE CPI FROM 1999 TO 2004
| The percentage increase for the average over-65
homestead taxpayer was computed by Tarrant Appraisal District. The
percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was computed by dividing the average CPI for
2004 (188.9) by the average CPI for 1999 (166.6) to
determine that the increase in the CPI from 1999 through 2004 is about
13.4%. The percentage increase in tax burden is about
7 times the increase in the CPI for over-65 homestead taxpayers for the
the same time period. THESE SIGNIFICANT INCREASES OF THE CPI COMBINED WITH INCREASING MEDICAL COSTS IN EXCESS OF THE CPI ARE SEVERELY PINCHING THE DISABLED AND OVER-65 HOMESTEAD TAXPAYERS AS WELL AS ALL OTHER PROPERTY TAXPAYERS. Remember that the CPI is used to adjust social security checks and many retirement annuities. |
