You still have to pay the plan for the months left on your plan, and you have to get another cell phone and enter another contract. A loss is expensive.
You can do something now to protect yourself in case you lose your cell phone in the future. There is a way of making lost or stolen mobile phones useless to thieves.
First, you need to get your mobile phone’s serial number. You can get this number by keying in star-hash-zero-six-hash “*#06#” and a fifteen digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your phone. Write it down and keep it safe.
Should your cell phone be lost of stolen, you can call your service provider and give them your phone’s code. They will then be able to block your handset, so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your cell phone will be useless. You probably won’t get your cell phone back, but at least you know whoever stole it can’t use it.
