Senior Leadership Northeast Minutes January 20, 2009

The January 2009 meeting of Senior leadership Northeast was convened at the Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce conference room on January 20, 2009. Chairman Ed Havran called the meeting to order at 9:00 am.

There were nine (9) individuals present representing three (3) Northeast Tarrant County cities.

This was inauguration day for United States President Barrack Obama. It is the opinion of the writer that this was the reason for the unusually low attendance at the meeting.

Kathy Welch of the Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed the attendees. Kathy advised that Mary King, the new president of the Chamber wanted to be at the Senior Leadership committee meeting but her husband had a medical emergency. Kathy gave a bit of background of Ms. King who is a resident of Colleyville since she relocated from Wisconsin, where she was a Director of Tourism. Ms. King has also been with the Irving Chamber of Commerce.

Kathy mentioned the Chamber Award Banquet which will be held on February 13, 2009 at the Southlake Town Square Hilton.

Bob Ray Sanders, a Fort Worth Star-Telegram executive and columnist was the featured speaker of the day. Mr. Sanders discussed a wide variety of local and national issues and solicited comments from attendees. The topics discussed included:

 State of the nation

 The national deficit

 The nation’s current wars

 The war aftermath and effect on people

 The changing environment of nation newspapers

 The change in newspaper readership habits

 The factors that are important in good journalism

 There was considerable interest shown by the attendees and many audience comments were made.

 A detailed account of all items discussed is well beyond the scope of these minutes.
